Hi all!

Here in Newton we've got another grey day, so let me brighten it a bit with some COLOR. This past weekend I saw Bisa Butler's exciting exhibit at Chicago's Art Institute.

This portrait of Bisa and her husband gives you an idea of just how big! Click here for an interesting interview with the artist, a glimpse of her dining room studio plus working on her long-arm!

This special exhibit was crowded when I saw it on Saturday. So I hurried back early Sunday morning for the low-volume members' hour, and snapped all the pictures that I'd wish I'd taken the day before!

Sure to brighten any day! Her exhibit is at the Chicago Art Institute through the summer. See it in person if you can, otherwise, enjoy the on-line images, zoom in and be sure to checkout the details! So much inspiration!

Bisa Butler refers to her palette as KOOL-AID COLORS. That is exactly how I would describe the colors we've used in the GRAPHIC JAM quilt, fabrics and pattern from SASSAFRAS LANE DESIGNS.

We have both of these KITS back in stock.

You can purchase just the GRAPHIC JAM pattern book. This quilt looks great in less intense colors as well. Check this out, wonderful pastels!

Designing duo Kristy & Shayla of SASSAFRAS LANE have a good video on YouTube, a BEHIND THE SCENES of the photo-shoot for the book. Those quilts don't just "lie there" and wait to be photographed! hahaha

A great look at some other color options in the quilt as well! Click here to see the fabrics, kits and book.

The technique for these 12 blocks is PAPER PIECING. A true time-saver, check out these ADD A QUARTER and ADD AN EIGHTH rulers, click here.

Never tried PAPER PIECING before? Click here for a simple, printable HOW-TO on PAPER PIECING.

Another technique, which may be very familiar or completely new to you, RAW EDGE FUSIBLE APPLIQUE.

If it is completely new, stop in and we'll "teach from the cutting table"! We carry several different products that turn any fabric into an iron-on.

We have just the fun PATTERN to get you started! WELCOME GNOME.

His pineapple hat and shoes say it all! LOL

We'll include this pattern FREE with any on-line order this weekend, or stop in the store and just ask for it.

You can also get this pattern packed with the fabrics shown here in our work-in-progress. WELCOME GNOME is a small quilt, just 7 x 11, and can be displayed hanging or lying down. Or add more borders to enlarge.

GNOMES are so fun! Check out more of our GNOMIES! ;)

Like me, are you starting to travel again? Keep in mind, the upcoming 2021 QUILTERS TREK. Starts in a month. Lots of FREE PATTERNS available across the US and elsewhere.

Kits which include the pattern can be mailed (not just the pattern). While supplies last, the first kits will include a Kansas fabric "patch".

I haven't finalized the design, but here is a "tease", my attempt to honor the railroad and wheat, to represent Newton, KS.

More later, but so you know, the kit will include enough fabric for 4 of these blocks, from which you can make a larger square or rectangular row. Or a TABLE RUNNER?!

From June 21 to August 31 the FREE PATTERNS will be available to anyone when they come in the store. Click here for details on QUILTERS TREK.

As I was checking out their Facebook page I found this link posted to the coolest video ever!

After all these years I FINALLY understand how the bobbin works! :) THE SECRET LIFE OF THE SEWING MACHINE - so well done, I'm going to watch the entire series, remastered from a 1980s British TV series by Mr Tim Hunkin. Be sure to watch the interview with him at the end too. Enjoy!

As usual, Kirsten & I will be on LIVE FACEBOOK at 1 pm tomorrow, Friday, central time. Stop in to Facebook and send up a "heart"! xox

And if you have nothing else to do this weekend, have you ever considered applying fabric to your walls? Here's the hallway joining the galleries at the Art Institute. This is actually wallpaper, but it could be the real fabric. Just google for directions. You need a bottle of liquid starch! ;)

We know you are planning your travels, and hope you'll keep us in mind!

Looking forward to seeing or hearing from you soon.

Have a great weekend!

Charlotte
